West Denpasar Police and Denpasar Police criminal investigators are working on a case of an alleged arson attempt at a Denpasar area shopping center.
The alleged arson attempt was at the supermarket and department store Tiara Dewata on Jl. Mayjen Sutoyo on Saturday, West Denpasar Police Chief Wisnu Wardana said on Sunday.
Police said they’ve checked about 60 CCTV installations surrounding Tiara Dewata.
The suspect is a thin woman, possibly aged about 25-35 years old, with long hair who was wearing a pink shirt at the time. Talk about an unsuspecting profile there!
“We do not yet know her identity,” Wardana told Tribun Bali.
The alleged arson occurred near stands selling household furniture and ‘Muslim fashions’ in the west corner, on the first floor, reports said.
An employee apparently smelt something burning and noticed flames coming from some plastic buckets near the furniture stand. The employee then reportedly grabbed a fire extinguisher to put out the flames—um, employee of the month, anyone?
After the fire was put out, a security guard at Tiara Dewata, who helped extinguish the fire, discovered a plastic water bottle with petrol amongst the buckets.
Unfortunately police were not able to find footage of the suspect taking off from Tiara Dewata because the CCTV did not cover the whole parking lot outside the building, a source inside West Denpasar Police who refused to be named, told Tribun Bali.
