Police in Bali recently arrested Damung Kilimandu, a 34-year-old man from Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, for allegedly murdering another Sumba man last weekend during a fight that broke out among a dozen allegedly drunken men in Denpasar.

“The suspect is a former convict, he was imprisoned in Kerobokan in 2017 for assault, and also in 2018 for another case of abuse,” Denpasar Police Chief, Ruddi Setiawan, told reporters on Wednesday as quoted by Tribun

The victim, identified as Dominggus Dapa, was stabbed in the stomach during the fight and did not survive his injuries.

According to I Wayan Wirajaya, head of South Denpasar Police, Dominggus had only meant to break up the fight when he accidentally hit Damung’s cheek.

“Damung didn’t take the accidental hit well because he was intoxicated, he then took up a knife and went after the person who had touched him,” Wirajaya said, as reported by Tribun-Bali. adding that Dominggus was stabbed three times to his death.

Police said the men didn’t have a dispute prior to their gathering on Saturday, but they eventually got too drunk and things got out of hand.

“Anything can be sparked when liquor is involved,” Wirajaya noted.

The police are still in pursuit of another suspect, identified as Frengky, who reportedly hid the murder weapon.
