Police in the Sukawati sub-district of Gianyar regency arrested a 48-year-old man this week for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy.

Gusti Ngurah Jaya Winangun from the Sukawati Police explained that the man, identified as Ketut U, sexually assaulted the boy and threatened to kill him if he were to tell his parents.

The boy’s mother, identified as IWN, reportedly found her child pale, quiet and dumbfounded on Monday evening, which prompted her to ask if something was wrong. The boy then said that Ketut U had opened his pants and touched his private parts. Ketut U then allegedly forced himself on the boy and caused him pain.

“The suspect also threatened the victim with murder if he were to tell his parents what happened,” Winangun added, as reported by Kumparan.

The boy’s parents then reported the matter to the police, who launched an investigation and arrested Ketut U on Tuesday.

Under Indonesia’s Child Protection Law, Ketut U faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
