Denpasar Police arrested and declared a 22-year-old man suspect for allegedly abusing a 2-year-old toddler, who is suffering from fractured bones after the incident.

According to reports, the suspect, identified by his initials AJ, was the boyfriend of the victim’s mother. Police said he works as a chef and is claiming that he has only done this once.

The victim, identified as KMW, is still undergoing treatment at the Sanglah General Hospital.

“The mother left the victim with the boyfriend. [KMW] was crying and [the suspect] could not calm the child down, so he got angry and started to hit and step on the child’s feet,” Josina Lambiombir, who heads the Women and Child Protection Unit (PPA) at Denpasar Police, told reporters yesterday.

KMW’s grandfather had taken the matter to authorities upon finding out what happened to his grandchild, who reportedly suffered injuries on the thighs, feet, and neck. KMW’s legs are also fractured because of the abuse.

Under Indonesia’s Elimination of Domestic Violence Law, AJ faces a maximum of five years in prison for his alleged crime.
