Phuket flight diverted to Bali after allegedly drunken Aussie passengers brawl on board

Reports are breaking that a Jetstar flight from Sydney to Phuket was forced to divert in Bali when passengers started brawling on board.

Six men were reportedly kicked off the Jetstar Flight JQ27 last night and will be put back on a flight to Oz on Friday—without having to face criminal charges.

Bradley Beecham, Brett Eldridge, Michael Matthews, Mark Rossiter, Lynmin Waharai, Ricky William were all detained in police custody after the diverted plane landed in Denpasar, according to News Corp Australia

Bali Airport’s General Manager Trikora Harjo told reporters that upon questioning by Ngurah Rai authorities, it was clear that the men were drunk and three of them smelled of alcohol.

The fight apparently involved four of them against one and was quite bloody according to eyewitness accounts and other comments circulating on social media.

The Jetstar pilot had told Ngurah Rai Airport that they needed to land because of “unruly passengers fighting in the cabin.”

“As the flight landed we brought them to the arrival hall of the international airport with Immigration, police and security of Ngurah Rai (airport). They are now being interrogated,” News Corp quoted Harjo as saying.

“I have communicated with the airline. They will bring them back to Australia. The airline will send their security to Bali to escort them back to Australia today. And they will be taken back to Australia tomorrow on Friday with Jetstar flight,” he said.

Editor’s Note: As more information has become available, we have amended the story to reflect that six, not five, men were arrested over the incident.
