To try and attack Bali’s energy crisis, PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) will build a liquefied natural gas processing facility, a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in the port of Benoa, reports say.
This LNG terminal would be able to overcome the threat of a power crisis on the island, said President Director of Pertagas, Hendra Jaya, as quoted by Liputan6.
Jaya says the LNG terminal is currently in the process of preparation and construction is expected to happen in 2016. The LNG terminal is intended to supply the energy needs of a power plant owned by PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary located in Pesanggaran PLN, Bali, reports Liputan6.
This power plant is one of the three existing plants in Bali, including those in Gilimanuk and Pemaron. The one in Pesanggaran is the largest of the three, Jaya says.
Construction of the LNG terminal will require five hectares of land in the port of Benoa.
Reports have yet to mention the environmental impact that building such a terminal could have on Benoa, which is one of the island’s most controversial areas at the moment, with the pending question of Benoa Bay’s reclamation.
