Padang Padang community turns to crowdfunding for help rebuilding after devastating fire

Flames whipped through properties overlooking Padang Padang and Impossibles on Wednesday, quickly spreading to totally devour several buildings.

While the fire’s cause has not been officially confirmed, the damage done is pretty clear right now: you can see pictures of barren and charred building foundations as all that remains.

Thankfully no one was reported killed or injured and the community has banded together quickly to respond to the devastation.

A crowfunding page on GoFundMe, ‘Help Rebuild Padang – Padang Bali’, has been put together by those who lost their homes and businesses.

“In less than 30 minutes, the flames leveled what has taken decades to build. We are thankful that nobody was harmed during the blaze, but the families living here have lost their homes and their livelihoods,” the fundraising page explains.

Padang Padang is a special place with its beautiful panoramic view of the Indian Ocean and world-class surf breaks. The people who were affected by the fire had a lot to lose, but insist they want to look forward: “We’re not dwelling on what we’ve lost, we’re dreaming of how we can bring this amazing place back to the way it was on April 19th and share it with you.”

The fundraiser allows for donors to be among the first guests once everything is rebuilt, with different donation amounts affording for different accommodation “thank you gifts.”
