Oscar’s Bar owner feels ‘cornered’ after methanol poisoning allegations

A Legian bar has become the subject of an investigation after three tourists who drank there reportedly died of methanol poisoning.

The bar’s owner, however, says Oscar’s bar has been unfairly “cornered” and been the subject of blame by the media, even though the three victims had been drinking before they arrived at his bar and could have gotten sick from drinks that weren’t served at his bar.

It’s more like guilty until proven innocent, he seems to suggest.

“Moreover, before, the victims drank elsewhere. So why is Oscar Cafe reported? We feel cornered. Therefore, there is also the possibility, that they got sick from beverages other than those from Oscar Cafe,” said the bar’s owner, Grend Marunduh, when meeting Tribun Bali, after the bar was sealed up by the police on Monday.

Marunduh also vented his frustration that the police did not clearly communicate that they would be sealing off the bar as a crime scene and shutting it down until further notice, as of 1:30 pm yesterday afternoon.

The three victims have been identified in previous reports as Russian woman, Bulgakova Iulia, 28, and Manado men Villy Kaudrow, 23, and Arthon Kevin Sondra, 20.
