A video of a foreigner allegedly stealing clothes from two Canggu stores went viral yesterday. Police said they would look into the case even though no reports for theft have been filed.

The clip was uploaded on @canggubalinews, a local community account on Instagram, showing a Caucasian man donning a black baseball cap, t-shirt, and shorts, as well as a white sling bag, entering a clothing store in the popular tourist area.

He was later shown stuffing his bag with several shirts.

The caption alleged that the unidentified man stole from two different clothing stores in Canggu.

North Kuta Utara Police Putu Diah Kurniawandari confirmed the authenticity of the video to Coconuts and said that law enforcers are keeping an eye on the incident.

“So far there have been no reports [filed], but we are keeping track [of the case],” she said in a text message.

Putu Diah also said that her department is in touch with the stores and has contacted interpreters if needed for the investigation.

Separately, North Kuta Police inspector Made Guna Wijaya said that the police have called on the store owners to file reports for theft against the alleged perpetrator. It is alleged that the suspect also stole clothes from another store in Uluwatu.
