A viral clip that was uploaded yesterday depicting a robbery that allegedly took place at a supermarket turned out to be a hoax, according to the police.

Denpasar Police Chief Bambang Yoga Pamungkas was quoted by Detik as saying that the narratives surrounding the clip, which was uploaded in a Facebook community group named Metro Bali, were misleading.

“Officers investigated the scene and we can assure you that the crime did not happen,” he said in a public statement.

The incident allegedly took place at Grand Lucky Supermarket on Jalan Sunset Road No. 29. A security officer told the authorities that the video was not taken at the supermarket.

Bambang added that things were business as usual at the supermarket and that there was no sign of anything untoward happening recently.

The video has reportedly been taken down from Facebook.

Bambang said that this should be a warning for everyone to verify any information before uploading anything on social media.
