A minor earthquake rocked Bali while most of us were in bed. Thankfully, the tectonic activity did not cause any significant damage or injuries.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), the quake, which had a magnitude of 3.1, occurred on Aug. 21 at 11:37pm local time.
Though relatively minor in scale, the quake was centered just 7 kilometers southwest of Badung, with shaking felt in Denpasar, Jimbaran, Kuta and surrounding areas.
No tsunami warning was issued.
As of this article’s publication, there have been no reports of casualties or major structural damages in Bali following the earthquake.
The minor earthquake did not affect normal activities of the island, and no travel advisories have been issued as a result. However, the quakes serve as a reminder of the potential hazards that Bali faces due to its location on a tectonic hotspot.
Tourists and residents are advised to stay alert and follow the instructions of local authorities in case of any emergency.
