Ngurah Rai aims to improve facilities to host up to 40 million passengers per year

Currently able to host 25 million passengers, Ngurah Rai wants to up its facilities to be able to host 40 million passengers per year, Tribun Bali reported.

The first step for Angkasa Pura I Airport Ngurah Rai (AP 1) is reportedly evaluating current building structures.

In doing this, AP 1 may have the opportunity to increase the length of the runway and the capacity of the airport apron.

According to Tribun Bali, it is hoped that Ngurah Rai will operate up to its full capacity in 2016 or 2107.

Current facilities at Ngurah Rai allows the Airbus 380 to land and take-off from Bali’s only airport. However, there is only one gate that allows the Airbus 380 to park. Facilities for the Airbus 380 haven’t been prioritized, while Boeing 777 and Boeing 747-400 have been pretty well-served at Ngurah Rai, reported Tribun Bali.

The head of Airport Authorities told Tribun Bali that they hoped to increase the capacity of the airport for the next five to ten years by improving the airport apron, taxiway, and runway.

We’ll be waiting with interest to see what improvements they eventually decide on.
