Central bank launches website mapping licensed moneychangers in Bali

Needing to change some currency but nervous to fall prey to Bali’s notorious moneychanging scams?

Well the central bank is hoping to help folks exchange money fearlessly, by launching a website that maps out officially licensed moneychangers on the island.

Bank Indonesia’s Bali province office set up the website early in November 2016 and has already gotten a thousand users since going live, according to the office’s head, Iman Karana

Karana says the bank has set up the website to combat the stigma moneychangers are facing in Bali due to fraudsters who trick and take advantage of foreign tourists.

The website, balimoneychanger.com, has a Google Maps feature so you can find the closest moneychanger and check out the street view.

You can see from the map that most of moneychangers are clustered in tourist hotspots like Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Bukit, and Ubud.
