Two people on a motorbike were killed in a deadly collision in Canggu, with police launching an investigation into the incident.

North Kuta Police Traffic Unit Chief Nyoman Suarjana confirmed over the weekend that an online motorbike taxi driver, DM, tragically passed away after he was involved in a traffic collision in the early hours of last Wednesday on Tibubeneng Street in Badung. He was 36.

His passenger, a foreigner identified only by her initial Y, was immediately rushed to the Sanglah Hospital. Coconuts Bali managed to get in touch with the victim’s partner (who preferred to remain anonymous to protect her family’s privacy), and he confirmed that Y drew her last breath on Saturday morning.

According to Suarjana, DM, who was driving Y, was hit head on by another motorbike driven by local man FJ, who was with his friend, TW.

Suarjana explained that DM was driving east when FJ, who was coming from the opposite direction, suddenly swerved to the right side of the street, making the collision unavoidable.

FJ reportedly suffered wounds on his left leg and face, while both TW’s legs and arms suffered minor scrapes.

While Suarjana stated that the incident was caused by FJ’s careless driving, the Badung Police are still investigating the incident per this article’s publication.

With traffic returning to normal in Bali, it’s always worth reminding to be vigilant on the road and obey all traffic rules.
