Motorcycle taxi driver Erwin Umar Kristanto was jumped by two unknown attackers at Denpasar’s Jl. Taman Pancing in the early hours of Tuesday morning. As a result of the knife attack, the forty-year-old Jakarta native has sustained considerable knife wounds to the right side of his body.
Krisanto, who works for a ride-hailing app, was on his way to pick up his wife from her job in Tuban when the incident happened, according to an article by Bali Post. Upon hearing she had already made her way home with a friend, he too headed towards his boardinghouse through Jl. Taman Pancing.
Talking to Pojok Sulsel, Kristanto’s wife Umi Khabibah, explained, “The incident occurred as my husband was urinating on the side of the road. He saw two young men approach his motorbike. When he intervened, one of the perpetrators stabbed my husband’s stomach. They immediately ran away.”
Badly injured, Kristanto managed to make his way home, where he reportedly fell off his motorbike and fainted. On seeing his state, wife Umi and a neighbor immediately rushed Kristanto to the emergency room at Sanglah Hospital.
Umi claimed that she had not yet had time to report the incident to the police station, but a number of police officers from Sanur had come to ask for information. Commenting to Bali Post, Inspector Hadimastika K. Putro of South Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit, said “The victim is still hospitalized. We are still investigating this case, including the actual motives.”
