Because this is Bali, a macaque was seen wandering around Ngurah Rai International Airport’s domestic arrivals area, minding its own business.
A video of the monkey, showing it hanging out at a coffee shop at the airport while it eyes a croissant that was left on the floor, went viral yesterday.
A security guard can be seen monitoring the primate.
The clip was reportedly taken by Instagram user @bernaduswp before it was shared by local community social media accounts.
Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I General Manager Handy Heryudhitiawan confirmed that the facility had the pleasure of having the monkey over for a short visit.
“This is because the airport area is open to the surrounding environment and thus wild animals can enter the terminal area,” he said in a written statement.
He added that the airport has an environment unit comprising people trained to supervise wildlife straying into the airport and prevent any unwanted incidents.
The mammal has been safely captured by airport authorities with support from the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) Bali.
