Mass organizations of Bali urged not to make a scene, or else army will step in

Mass organizations better watch themselves and keep their heads down, says Indonesian Command 163, Colonel I Nyoman Cantiasa.

“When I was first assigned to Bali, the first thing I noticed was the amount of struggles in Bali. I was surprised that there are social organizations that take power controlling areas, to the point of clashes,” Merdeka quoted Cantiasa as saying to the Indonesian press on Monday.

The colonel is referring to the deadly clashes in December 2015 in Denpasar and Kerobokan Prison that broke out between rival “community organizations”.

Cantiasa says his troops will swiftly take action should these mass organizations act up in Bali again.

“Remember the commotion like in Kerobokan and Jl. Teuku Umar,” Cantiasa says he told mass org leaders.

If there’s a repeat of that, “then do not blame us if my soldiers directly come down and break it up. For the safety of Bali, the army is ready to act.”

The colonel also got in a word about the prevalence of drug dealing in Bali.

“I read that in Indonesia, Bali is ranked third after Papua for drug circulation. Our generation must not be killed by drugs,” he concluded.
