For the first time, Margriet Megawe will testify in the trial of Agustay Hamda May.
Margriet is slated to testify Tuesday in Denpasar District Court with Judge Edward Harris Sinaga presiding, reports Tribun Bali.
Like Margriet, Agus is standing trial for the murder of the eight-year-old girl who has captured our attention since she was reported missing from her adoptive family’s home in Sanur last May, then found buried in their backyard in June.
Margriet, Engeline’s adoptive mother, and Agus, the family’s former gardener are both accused of taking part in the girl’s tragic and puzzling murder.
Agus has previously testified that Margriet murdered Engeline and coerced him into helping bury her.
Autopsy results indicate Engeline had been tortured before she was buried, while witnesses have asserted that Margriet was abusive and negligent to her adopted daughter.
Hopefully more of the truth will come out as Margriet takes the stand, though we’ll likely never really know what happened to poor Engeline.
