A man literally had a rude awakening in Bali early on Tuesday morning when he awoke to find only the frames of two of his motorbike remaining, the rest totally burning away.
I Wayan Kempel, 50, of Jehem Kelod, Tembuku, Bangli was puzzled as to why his Honda Varios (one black and one black and red) were burnt to a crisp.
Kempel says he heard an explosion in the middle of the night, around 12:30 am, that woke him up and when he looked to find the source of the explosion, he saw his bikes on fire.
“There were several explosions, even the garage floor was also damaged from the heat,” a local resident told Merdeka on Tuesday.
Fortunately Kempel and his neighbors were able to put out the fire before it spread to his home.
But the damage is still pretty costly for Kempel—he estimates the loss totals Rp 24 million.
Kempel says he’s not sure how exactly the bikes caught fire and wonders if the fire was caused by a short circuit with the battery.
Tembuku Police Chief Made Ade Suryawan explained that police are still investigating the fire and interviewing witnesses.
He added that wooden matches were found near the site—so who knows, maybe someone could have been targeting Kempel’s bikes, or the matches could have belonged to one of Bali’s many smokers.
