An Indonesian-Vietnamese man survived a fall from a cliff on a Nusa Penida beach yesterday, after his attempt at acrobatics for the sake of a good picture went horribly wrong.
The Tomohon-born tourist was identified by his initials AK. During a visit to Broken Beach in Nusa Penida, Klungkung at around 9:30am yesterday, police said AK’s tour guide was snapping photos of him posing by the cliffside.
For the highlight reel, AK attempted a somersault but fell over the 40-meter high cliff to the sandy and rocky beach below.
Bali Search and Rescue Agency Chief Gede Darmada said that rescuers initially struggled to reach AK, who fractured his leg but remained conscious, due to the high tide. They finally managed to evacuate AK on a stretcher at around 3:15pm.
AK was immediately rushed to the hospital for further medical attention.
