Blinded by rage, a Kuta man set fire to a motorcycle belonging to another man who allegedly raped his girlfriend. The flames then spread to three other motorbikes and one car.

The arson suspect, identified by his initials RS, saw red after he learned that his girlfriend was hit on by MRA. MRA allegedly got RS’ girlfriend drunk on arak (Balinese traditional liquor) and slept with her.

In the early hours of Oct. 5, RS went to MRA’s kosan (boarding home) in Kedonganan and set the latter’s motorbike on fire, before it spread to other vehicles as well.

“The suspect intended to set fire on one motorbike, but the fire spread to three other motorbikes and one car,” said Denpasar Police Chief Bambang Yugo Pamungkas yesterday adding that RS used gasoline and a matchstick to ignite the fire.

RS was arrested on the same day in Denpasar. Under Indonesian law, he may face 12 years in prison for arson.

Per this article’s publication, no charges were pressed against MRA for rape.
