What would you do if you found (what appears to be) human bones on your land? Well, this Klungkung resident decided not to tell the police about it, but word got around quickly after his discovery anyway.

Komang Suastika, a 39-year-old man from Klungkung regency, said he accidentally found the bones while he was using a hoe to hack cliff soil on the side of his house, as reported by Kumparan.

“At some point it hit something, and when I checked it was bones … most of which have turned to dust, it looks very old,” Komang told Kumparan.

According to the report, Komang has only lived in the area for about five months. When he first moved in, he claimed to have found a human skull but decided to throw it into the river in Buleleng.

“I asked a shaman about it and he told me to throw it in the river and not report it to the police,” Komang said.

None of the residents in the area seemed to be aware of the possibility that there might be human remains buried on their land — not anymore at least.

“During the 30 September Movement in 1965, this was a site for mass burial, but all the bones have been moved to be buried in the village,” Nengah Rati, who is Komang’s neighbor, told Kumparan.

For now, police have reportedly taken over the matter and the bones will be taken to a lab for a forensic examination.

“We want to make sure what these bones are, so we’re taking them to forensics. We can’t say just yet whether they are human bones, most of it are frail and have turned to dust,” Mirza Gunawan from Klungkung Police said.
