A land broker was shot multiple times with an airsoft gun by his business partner earlier this week in the Sukawati sub-district of Gianyar regency. Authorities said the shooter shot the victim because the latter owed him money.

“The suspect has confessed to his actions, having assaulted the victim by shooting him five times,” I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Winangun from the Sukawati Police told reporters yesterday

The suspect, identified as I Ketut Sujana, allegedly shot his business partner, I Ketut Tantra, on Tuesday. Tantra was immediately taken to Ganesha Hospital after the incident, as he was injured on his arms and back.

Both Sujana and Tantra are land brokers. Sujana claimed that Tantra owed him payment for previous deals, and allegedly shot him because Tantra couldn’t pay up. Authorities have yet to reveal the amount of money involved in the dispute.

Winangun said Sujana bought his airsoft gun online for about IDR4million (US$286) and has been carrying it around for self-protection.

“He uses it for protection, because he usually goes around with a lot of money and dealing with bank transactions. For his own safety, he bought the airsoft gun,” Winangun said.

Under Indonesia’s criminal code, Sujana faces a maximum of two years and eight months in prison, if convicted.
