A 44-year-old man in Bali has been arrested after he allegedly murdered an elderly man over the weekend, after finding out that his wife may have cheated on him with the victim.
Police say that the suspect, identified as M, attacked the victim, identified as 70-year-old K, with a sickle on Saturday after suspecting that K had asked M’s wife to have sex with him.
“The suspect went and slashed the victim with the sickle […] The victim was wounded on the back of his head and neck, as well as his right shoulder that almost fell off,” I Ketut Oka Bawa, Badung precinct spokesman, told reporters.
M reportedly made sure that K was dead before fleeing the scene and ditching his weapon into a nearby river. The incident took place in North Kuta, Badung regency.
“The suspect was jealous because [the victim asked] his wife to have sex,” Oka said. “He was suspicious of his wife being in an affair with the victim.”
Based on witnesses’ accounts, police managed to identify M and arrested him on Saturday evening. He has been charged with premeditated murder under Indonesia’s criminal code (KUHP), which could see him face the death penalty.
