Man brings meth and one kilo of marijuana from Sumatra to Bali via motorbike

One Sumatran guy had a hell of road trip from Medan all the way to Bali on his motorbike as he brought the drugs across islands without detection.

But he was ultimately caught in Bali over the weekend for dealing the drugs he so carefully transported.

Iwan, 25, from North Sumatra was arrested in North Bali on Sunday by Buleleng Narcotics Police.

Police had tried to arrest Iwan on Saturday night in Desa Kayuputih when he was in the middle of a transaction with Kadek Budi Artana, 37, but Iwan fled the scene before they could catch him.

Artana was arrested with 14 packs of meth weighing five grams.

“Iwan is a supplier of marijuana and methamphetamine in the region of Buleleng. We immediately went after him, but he escaped and hid in the Bestala woods,” Head of Buleleng Police’s Narcotics Investigation Unit, Chief Made Agus Dwi Wirawan told Tribun Bali on Monday.

The next day, police managed to catch Iwan at his boardinghouse in the Seririt area—he could only apparently hide in the woods for so long.

After his arrest, Iwan admitted to taking meth from Medan to sell in Bali by overland travel. He had reportedly brought one kilo of marijuana and 32 packages of meth from Medan to Bali using his motorbike. He had hidden the drugs in his backpack and had been selling the marijuana in Denpasar and the meth in Buleleng.

Wirawan says he hopes these arrests will lead police to further uncover other drug networks.
