Footage that went viral of a failed stabbing at a convenience store has lead Bali police to arrest the alleged perpetrator and his accomplice, who walked away with nothing but an abandoned pack of cigarettes from the crime scene.
Indonesian man Cristover, aka Cristo, 26, and his accomplice, Made Juliantara alias Polos, 24, have already been arrested by West Denpasar Police over the video, that since it was posted to Facebook yesterday, has garnered over 45,000 views, Denpasar Police Chief Hadi Purnomo confirmed.
“We arrested them at around 2:30pm this afternoon,” Purnomo told Tribun Bali on Tuesday.
The incident took place early on Tuesday at a mini-market on Jl. Gunung Agung, Denpasar.
The 41-second video shows a pair of men pulling up on a motorbike to a convenience store, where three other men are sitting at a table in front.
The men sitting at the table attempt to scatter as a man—purportedly Cristover—wearing a red shirt gets off the motorbike, wielding what appears to be a pocketknife.
But one of the targeted victims has a harder time getting away and has to fend off the attacker, eventually blocking himself with the table to get away, fortunately uninjured.
After he flees, the perpetrator flings a chair, apparently in frustration, then as he gets back on his motorbike, Polos casually heads over to the table and grabs a pack of cigarettes left behind by the fleeing victims.
It’s alleged that Cristover was under the influence of alcohol during the incident—not too hard to believe as he staggers unsteadily in the video.
It was the viral footage that first launched West Denpasar Police’s investigation of the incident, which lead them to discover that Cristover and Polos were also involved in a stabbing at another location in Denpasar, at Jl. Diponogoro.
“So he went on a rampage at two mini-markets, first on Jl. Diponegoro then on Jalan Gunung Agung,” Purnomo told reporters.
Police said the targets of the stabbing, who appear in the video, also reported the incident.
