A man who allegedly got away with stealing beer as many as nine times from the Hardys supermarket in Kuta has been arrested.
Gianyar man Anak Agung Marlon Rihayana, 37, was caught in action by security officers on Wednesday at the supermarket, who then reported him to Kuta Police.
Police say Marlon confessed to committing theft in the same place since last June. The first time, got away with taking 15 bottles of Bintang beer, while the second time, he pulled out as many as 30 bottles. In August 2016, he apparently stole 21 Bintangs and three cans of Bear Brand milk.
While on Wednesday, he had been attempting to steal one can of Bear Brand and 15 Bintangs.
Marlon’s beer swiping was caught on CCTV, police said.
“The modus operandi was that he pretended to shop while carrying a basket of goods to a quiet place, without a cashier or salesperson and he would go out the other door, carrying one to three crates of beer,” Kuta Police Chief Commissioner Wayan Sumara told Tribun Bali on Thursday.
In addition to running of with free Bintang in Hardys, Sumara says Marlon also committed theft in Denpasar supermarket Tiara Dewata.
