Macy Gray sh*t show: Bali beach club refunds GA tickets after singer ‘plays tracks off laptop’ and bombs ‘Happy Birthday song’ in Canggu performance (VIDEO)

Macy Gray’s performance in Canggu, Bali was apparently so bad on Saturday night that the venue, Finns Beach Club, has publicly announced it will be refunding the cost of general admission tickets.

Concert-goers went in expecting the legendary raspy stylings of the singer who put out the hit single “I try” years ago (c. 1999), but instead got one very poorly executed “Happy Birthday” song and a playlist off a laptop, along with other incoherent and incomplete ditties. To make matter worse, it all happened hours later than the published start time of 4pm, so the crowd already seemed irritable from having to spend so much time waiting around (and money for food and drinks in the mean time).

The poster for the American singer’s show at Finns advertised “featured special guest DJ” and “live songs” from the Grammy award-winner, so naturally most people went in thinking Gray would be singing. The show sure sounded like it would be a great one (we even included it on our weekend events guide), but the singer’s time on stage in Bali seems to go on and demonstrate that her best days as a performer are behind her.

Finns apparently had at first tried to rebound the disaster show by promising ticket-holders a Macy Gray Redemption Party for the next Monday, accompanied by free flow alcohol.

But any chance of redemption for Gray in Bali was short-lived. Just around five hours later, the venue posted that Gray’s management made it clear they “have no interest” in Macy performing the Redemption Party. Finns also mentioned not getting any refund themselves from the singer for her “substantial performance fee,” but said they would be refunding general admission tickets.

GA ticket holders posted grateful comments thanking Finns for their recovery.

But people who had shelled out millions of rupiah for expensive VIP packages weren’t so impressed. GA tickets went for IDR350k (US$26), but VIP started from IDR1.5 million (US$112) and went all the way up to IDR50 million (US$3,756) for platinum level.

Meanwhile, the singer herself has appeared to comment Finns’ public posts on Facebook, calling it all “BULLCHIT” and is threatening to sue the beach club.

She fired out another one, also in caps lock, saying she knew nothing about the so-called Redemption Party in the first place.
