A middle-aged American man who traveled to Bali three years ago to meet the love of his life was deported yesterday for overstaying his visa.
The 46-year-old American, identified by his initials RK, reportedly arrived in Bali on March 13, 2020, with a dream and cash worth IDR30 million (US$2,010) to fund his trip.
He was supposed to leave for New York via Wuhan on April 1 that year but, as we all know, the pandemic happened. His ticket was reportedly canceled once Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport was closed down.
“His budget was only planned for three weeks so the money was gone to fund his daily needs in Bali,” said Denpasar Immigration Office Head Tedy Riyandi.
After running out of money, RK reportedly could not afford a plane ticket back home so he decided to stay in Bali.
“He overstayed for 1,073 days,” Tedy added.
RK’s family reportedly bought him a ticket to leave the country. He was deported yesterday and boarded a Philippine Airlines flight to New York via Manila. In addition to being deported, RK has been temporarily banned from entering Indonesia.
It is not clear what happened to RK’s love story after the deportation.
