A new boat has come to town to dock in Bali’s waters.
Not just any old boat, but a big SAR vessel to reportedly be used by Indonesia’s Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).
Yudi Widiana Adia from the national parliament says he hopes the presence of the vessel will be able to foster a sense of security and comfort for tourists, reports Kompas.
Adia also wants Bali to show this ship off to represent its identity a major tourist destination, not only in Indonesia, but in the world. Yes, it seems like as much of an image thing as a functional thing to us too.
“Hopefully this rescue ship can provide maximum benefits for the search and rescue efforts,” Adia said, as quoted by Kompas.
The ship SAR Arjuna 229 was inaugurated yesterday by Chief Marshal Basarnas Bambang Soelistyo in Benoa Harbour.
He added that Arjuna is 40 meters in length, 7.8 meters wide, and has a 1400 HP engine.
