Even as Lombok continues to be hit by earthquake after earthquake, life must go on, as we’ve seen with mothers continuing to birth babies in the disaster zone, and now couples still taking the plunge and getting married.
A couple in East Lombok has tied the knot, marking their union at an evacuation camp after becoming homeless from the series of devastating earthquakes that have taken over 500 lives.
Devi Novriawan and Dewi Sinta converted a refuge tent in Pohgading, East Lombok into a place of celebration on Saturday.
The couple got decked out in their all-white wedding-wear and married each other as neighbors from their village took pictures and offered the pair their best wishes.
In a video posted to Facebook, you can see the bride and groom joyfully walking onward.
Photos from the couple’s reception quickly went viral, with Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) spokesman Purwo Sutopo Nugroho even sharing them on his Twitter account.
“Even though their home is broken and they are in a refugee camp, Devi Novriawan and Dewi Sinta are marrying in Pohgading, East Lombok. They remain happy. Congratulations to the two newlyweds,” Nugroho tweeted on Monday.
