A university professor was arrested last week at the Ngurah Rai International Airport for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in a public toilet.
According to the Bali Police, the incident took place on Jan. 4 at around 4pm. The suspect is a 38-year-old lecturer from East Nusa Tenggara known by his initials FBS.
“We have charged the suspect and detained him at the Bali Police headquarters,” said Bali Police spokesman Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto.
The official said that the victim was with his parents on the day of the crime. The family was scheduled to fly to Jakarta.
The victim then went to the toilet where he encountered FBS, who was scheduled to fly to Yogyakarta. FBS reportedly lured the victim into one of the stalls where he sexually assaulted the boy.
“The suspect then told the victim to hide before leaving the toilet. The victim was too scared to move but eventually he got out and told his parents,” said Bayu.
The authorities later located FBS and arrested him after reviewing CCTV footage from the airport.
Under Indonesian law, FBS may face 15 years behind bars for sexual assault of a minor.
