Klungkung local authorities talk ecobricks

In an impressive demonstration of environmental awareness, Klungkung’s regent got together with the perbekel (village head) to talk about managing plastic waste with ecobricks on Wednesday.

Ecobricks being plastic bottles stuffed with non biodegradable trash, compacted hard enough enough so they can be used used to construct things like walls tables, and chairs.

The meeting was actually part of a socialization program led regent I Nyoman Swirta, Head of the Klungkung Department of Sanitation Anak Angung Kirana, head of the Klungkung Regional Development Planning Board (Bapedda) Wayan Wasta, Head of the Klungkung Environmental Department I Ketut Sujana, and a number of experts of in the field.

Kirana said the socialization about the ecobricks is trying to provide an understanding of how to handle plastic waste and how that information can be spread throughout villages in the regency.

“I hope all the village heads in Klungkung regency can apply this ecobrick practice. This method is also one of the easiest ways to keep the environment around us clean and safe from plastic waste,” Kirana said, as quoted by Tribun Bali.

We hope this regency can lead the way in Bali, for as they literally turn trash into useful building blocks.
