A prisoner caught with meth during a raid at LP Kerobokan on Wednesday says he got his drugs from the outside and that they were just meant for personal use, not for distribution.
Jakarta-born Becky Asnawi was among one of the prisoners caught with illicit goods inside Kerobokan as a joint force including police, military, and narcotics agency officers combed the prison for stuff like weapons and drugs.
The 40-year-old had been hiding the goods in his closet. Three clear plastic packs of meth powder, weighing 0.4 grams, were camouflaged in a candy wrapper, according to Tribun Bali.
Following the raid, Asnawi was sent to Badung Police for questioning.
Asnawi admitted to officers that he just consumed some meth alone, only 30 minutes before the raid.
But he kept his mouth shut when asked how he could sneak the drugs in past prison officers.
Not surprisingly, Asnawi has been in Kerobokan since June 30, 2014, serving a four-year narcotics sentence. Looks like his rehabilitation is going just swimmingly.
Along with Asnawi, narcotics prisoner Putu Arista Perdana Putra also got in trouble during the raid for drugs. Officers found plastic in his wallet that they suspected formerly contained meth. When made to undergo a urine test, Putra’s results came back positive for meth.
In addition to the drugs, the raid turned up 10 weapons, dozens of mobile phones, a number of alcoholic drinks like Jack Daniels and Red label, and “disco lights.”
“We found a handphone in the garden, in a potted plant outside the block, sharp weapons, we found hidden outside the block in the bathroom,” Head of Bali Penitentiary Department of Law and Human Rights, Nyoman Putra Surya said, as quoted by Tribun.
Surya says prison officers, police, military, and narcotics agency officers will regularly conduct spot checks to minimize the circulation of narcotics and dangerous goods inside the prison.
Because heave knows we don’t want another deadly prison brawl situation, like in December 2015.
