Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle stolen in Bali: Prospective buyer ‘test drives’ it

A man was trying to sell a motorcycle when someone decided to take it off his hands—just without paying for it.

I Kadek Muliadi, 38, was trying to sell his his brother’s Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle in Mengwi, Bali, when he showed it to a “mysterious man” who claimed to want to buy the bike, reports Tribun Bali

Muliadi told police on Monday that the thief came to his warung in Mengwi to negotiate a price for the red motorcycle and spent 30 minutes working out a price. One they agreed on a price, the man asked Muliadi permission to test drive the motorcycle.

“I did not suspect him at all, because the man was friendly and had a reassuring tone,” Muliadi said.

But then two hours passed and the man “trying” the motorcycle didn’t return, Muliadi says.

“Until two hours I waited, that man has still not come to this day. I realized that the motorcycle had been stolen,” he said in a weak voice, according to Tribun.

Muliadi hopes the police will quickly apprehend the bike thief and use his story as a lesson for the public.

“Now, Bali is not safe anymore. In the past, a motorbike in the key with it was lost. Now, the motorcycle was stole in plain sight. We need to be more vigilant when selling motorcycles,” he said.

However, according to Tribun Bali, thieves posing as prospective buyers is not a common modus operandi for snatching bikes in Badung—what’s more common is cases where motorcycles are stolen when the steering isn’t locked.

I Wayan Sujana of Badung Police told Tribun that this case is still under investigation during a meeting on Thursday.
