A family of foreigners have been apprehended and may face deportation, authorities said, after they were found begging in Bali.

A video of the family begging at Discovery Mall in Kuta, Badung went viral on Monday, in which they claimed to have run out of money on the Island of Gods.

The husband and wife, along with their daughter, are from Jordan. They were recorded asking every passing visitor for help.

Badung Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) Chief I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara told Coconuts Bali via text message that the family of three were apprehended yesterday at around 5:30pm on Dewi Sri Street.

The family is composed of FAS, 24, JSJ, 21, and their 2-year-old daughter.

Separately, Satpol PP Kuta team inspector Wayan Suantara was quoted by DetikBali as saying that the parents admitted to having begged for a week in various places in the Kuta area. When interrogated, the couple said that they had run out of funds and provisions.

It’s not yet clear when the family arrived in Bali. Satpol PP said that questioning the family has been a struggle as the foreigners only spoke Arabic.

Suryanegara stated that the family would be referred to the immigration authorities for further action after Satpol PP had recommended for their deportation from Indonesia.
