Jetstar gets flak for offering cheap flights from Oz to Bali in the midst of #boycottBali

Some people are getting down on the budget airline Jetstar for offering cheap Bali fares when two Australian countrymen locked up in Bali are up for execution.

The trending hashtag at the moment is #boycottBali, a social media campaign insisting Australians don’t travel to Bali in protest of the impending executions of Bali Nine Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.

If you’re not into the whole #boycottBali movement that sees people avoiding trips to Bali in protest of the Bali Nine executions, then now would be a great time to book a cheap to Denpasar. Jetstar is offering one-way tickets stating at $99 from Darwin to Denpasar until Feb. 24, for the travel period between October 7 and December 7 this year.

A Jetstar spokesman said there have been no changes in bookings to Bali despite the social media campaign to “boycott Bali,” reports the Daily Telegraph

But some say we won’t see the impact for a couple of months.

“When you have something like a natural disaster or terrorist attack, the impact (on bookings) is immediate,” said Jayson Westbury from the Australian Federation of Travel Agents, as quoted by the Daily Telegraph.

“It may not be until much later this year until we know if people have chosen to book a holiday elsewhere, as a result of the executions.”
