A 41-year-old woman from Italy thankfully survived being in the mercy of a strong wave at Nusa Penida’s Klingking Beach in Nusa Penida over the weekend, sustaining some heavy injuries during the incident.

Identified only as Alessandra by local news outlets, the tourist was enjoying a walk on the beach and a dip in the ocean on Saturday afternoon. While she was in the water, a huge wave washed over her. She reportedly broke her right leg during her tumble in the water.

A local search and rescue team struggled to immediately evacuate Alessandra amid a high tide. They eventually managed to lift her from the water using a speedboat.

Her rescue operation reportedly took around half an hour. Alessandra survived with a broken leg and was immediately rushed to the Padangbai Port in Karangasem so she could be treated at a nearby hospital.
