Immigration authorities in Bali have deported an Italian national, identified by his initials EF, who has been accused of illegally running a spiritual guidance business on the island.
I Putu Surya Dharma, a spokesman from the regional office for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, said EF made profit from giving spiritual consultations online, which the foreigner used for daily expenses while in Bali.
Authorities learned about his illegal activities after the 51-year-old visited an immigration office in Singaraja to renew his stay permit. Authorities then questioned him and found that he had violated Indonesia’s immigration law, as his visa only permitted him to stay in Indonesia for vacation.
“We investigated his activity in Bali. He mostly stayed in Ubud, but he frequently goes around, and so we detained him on Aug. 12 and he was deported on Aug. 14,” Surya said.
