ISIS fears: Bali tightens grip on passport issuance

The Bali regional immigration division of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights is tightening up on issuing passports because of ISIS concerns.

The immigration division reportedly says it wants to better be able to monitor Indonesian citizens traveling abroad that may be under the influence of ISIS.

“We have to be extra careful before issuing passports. We provide information related to the situation abroad and we remind them (the passport applicants) to be aware of the development of ISIS during the passport interview process,” said T. Sabaru, the head of the immigration division in Denpasar ion Thursday, as quoted by Antara

According to Sabaru, in addition to checking the validity and completeness of documents, immigration clerk will give you a friendly reminder about the current international political situation with ISIS.

“Immigration not only examines the administration, but they are also trained to prevent citizens from getting into trouble abroad, lest they become a source of trouble,” Sabaru said.

Passport applicants traveling in group tours are something immigration will be screening (you would think there would be safety in numbers), because of how 16 citizens from East Java allegedly joined ISIS when they toured with a group.
