An unidentified Instagram influencer is currently under investigation by the Bali Police for allegedly creating and selling porn on social media, as well as promoting online gambling.
The Instaceleb, who was identified by the initials RMH, was apprehended in Kuta along with two other people who helped the individual in producing the pornographic content. The other two suspects were identified only as R and E.
Bali Police’s Cyber Crimes Unit Chief Nanang Prihasmoko said that the three suspects are currently not in detention as the authorities are still investigating the case.
“If there is strong evidence then we can make an arrest,” he said.
Under Indonesian law, porn creators and distributors may face up to six years in prison.
While the Island of Gods is chiefly home to Balinese Hindus, Indonesia is the largest Muslim-majority country in the world. The country’s ambiguous pornography laws have led to the jailing of people over adult content and leaked sex tapes, including celebrities. Even so, some Indonesians still break the law, with a number of content makers active on adult platforms such as OnlyFans, which is popular among sex workers.
