A prisoner at Bali’s notorious Kerobokan Prison was found dead on Monday after he apparently hanged himself in the correctional facility.

The body of Karangasem man I Wayan Suena, 40, was found at the back of prison Block D by a prison employee yesterday.

Suena, locked up over a narcotics case, had been missing from an inspection at 5:30 pm. After guards conducted a search of the prison, that’s when he was found having hanged himself.

The man reportedly used a four-meter long blue plastic strap.

Then incident has been confirmed to local media by North Kuta Police Chief Heri Supriawan.

“The body of the victim (prison inmate from Kerobokan Block D), who allegedly hanged himself, has been taken to Sanglah Hospital for a post-mortem examination,” Supriawan told Tribun Bali

Supriawan said Suena’s motive for committing suicide is not clear at this time, but police will be investigating further.
