An Indonesian tourist from Yogyakarta was swept away by currents and drowned while swimming at Seminyak Beach earlier this morning.
Denpasar Police spokesman I Ketut Sukadi confirmed the tragic incident, which reportedly took place on the beach in front of La Plancha restaurant.
The 32-year-old victim, identified as NN, was from Yogyakarta’s Bantul regency. He came from a nearby villa and began swimming at around 7:30am. Almost half an hour later, a witness said NN started yelling for help but was soon swept up by the strong wave.
“The victim had shouted for help, but because the waves were pretty big, he didn’t survive. When he was found not long after, his life couldn’t be saved,” Sukadi said.
