The Indonesian government wants to ride on the coattails of Barack Obama’s Indonesia holiday by getting a tour package set up, modeled after 44th American president’s recent family vacation.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya has asked the Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel Agencies (ASITA) to design an ‘Obama tour package,’ following in his footsteps across Indonesia.
“The tour package can include visits to special places that Barack Obama visited during his vacation in Indonesia,” Yahya stated in a release on Saturday.
The minister’s hope is that more American and even more European travelers will develop an interest in coming to Indonesia after seeing Obama enjoy his time in the archipelago nation.
Obama, along with his wife Michelle and their daughters Sasha and Malia, came to Indonesia for a 10-day holiday this June, kicking it off in Bali. While in Bali, the Obamas stayed in Ubud and were spotted visiting famous sites around the island, such as Tirta Empul and the Ayung River for rafting.
Following Bali, the family continued on to Javanese cultural hub, Yogyakarta where they visited the ancient buddhist temple Borobudur, and on finally to Jakarta where Obama revisited his childhood home and met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo—though any tour packages modeled after Obama’s trip wouldn’t likely include a get-together with Jokowi.
