Indonesia’s coolest political activist rockstar (really folk singer) Iwan Fals is making the most of his latest trip to Bali by lending a helping hand to the island’s threatened coral reefs.
The artist in in town for a big concert tomorrow night at Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park and will share the spotlight with Bali’s most environmentally concerned punk band, Superman is Dead (SID), the frontmen of the Tolak Reklamasi movement.
Along with SID, Fals planted the coral after a special ceremony in Serangan, Bali on Thursday to set an example of “saving nature,” also because there’s a sanctity to Bali’s water: in his own words, the “water is full of prayers,” according to Tribun Bali.
The newspaper quoted Fals as saying that no matter how small a good deed is, it’s still meaningful. Such words of wisdom.
The big show on Saturday is scheduled to kick off at 4 pm, featuring a number of bands. The target audience is a whopping 10 thousand spectators, said Dody Firmasyah, executive producer NET TV, the concert’s sponsor.
The concert will promote the whole “Go Green” theme. In addition to the coral planting, Iwan Fals, SID, and other local artists will also do a beach clean up in Kuta on Sunday with some street jamming, reports Tribun.
