Indian tourist arrivals in Bali up over 60 percent this year

Bali is quickly becoming a favorite holiday destination for Indian tourists, evidenced by the spike up in foreign arrivals in the past year.

From January to August 2016, the amount of Indian tourists visiting Bali flew up by 61.57 percent compared with the same period the previous year, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

“Tourists from India rank fifth out of ten in countries supplying the most tourists to the island, after Australia, China, Japan, and the UK,” Bali BPS Head Adi Nugroho told Antara Bali in Denpasar on Wednesday.

Bali tourism industry insider Made Sudana told Antara that increasing visits from Indian tourists can be attributed to the quality of art, culture, and shared Hindu religion in Bali. There’s also improved cooperation between Indonesia and India, especially in Bali over tourism promotion, he added.

Indonesian Ambassador to India, Rizali W Indrakesuma has also reportedly said that the government is working to get a direct flight from Indonesia to India and vice versa to attract more Indian tourists to the archipelago nation.
