The local government is going and ripping down “illegal” or unauthorized billboards from major streets in Bali.

South Bali’s Badung Regency government says it’s taking firm action against billboards and banner advertisements without the proper licensing in their territory.

This is no small undertaking since Bali—especially the touristic area of Badung—is overrun with advertising banners, the majority of which we imagine have no licenses since it’s kind of just common practice to stick those puppies up.

The Badung administration says it has been busy this month dismantling billboards along the major arteries of Sunset Road, Jl. By Pass Ngurah Rai, and Jl. Uluwatu I and II.

“This is to enforce the regulation of Badung Regency No. 80 of 2014 on the Implementation of Advertising,” said regional law enforcement and regulation head, I Wayan Sukanta.

As many as 288 billboards have been identified in Badung as being in violation of this regulation, Sukanta told Bali Post on Monday.

He added that violators were given a red mark on their billboards as a warning.

“If by now, the owner has not moved (their billboards) our team will immediately rip it down,” he said
