A report on Honda’s bestselling motorcycles in Bali just came out. From just looking around on any street it’s probably pretty obvious which models, but can you guess them? Drum roll please.
No surprises here, the Vario and Beat, which are all over the island are Honda’s bestsellers, contributing a whopping 50 percent of Honda’s sales in Bali alone, averaging around 15,000 units per month, reports Reuters.
Most of Honda’s sales in Bali are matic (scooters) because they are comfortable and easy to use, says Thomas Wijaya, GM Sales, PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM). Varios are good for transporting stuff, especially surf boards—a key thing to rack up for in Bali.
Because there are so many tourists in Bali, the rental business is a pretty steady customer for AHM, in addition to good old fashioned personal use, says Wijaya.
Bali contributes about 3.6 percent of total national AHM sales. The 15,000 sold in Bali are out of a total 400,000 sales per month nationwide, says Wijaya.
Because of the size of Bali’s industry, AHM is keen on developing a 24-hour after-sales service in Badung and Denpasar by next year, says Yohanes Kurniawan, Regional Chief of PT Astra International Tbk-Honda
Besides the Vario (PGM-FI and Techno models) that account for 50 percent of sales, the Beat is also popular among Balinese with a staggering sales contribution of 30 percent. That’s followed by the Scoopy. Honda is leading Bali with a market share of 80.8 percent, says Kurniawan. He noted that total sales in Bali last year were 225,000 units, while 180,000 of those were Honda’s.
