If you wanted to summit Mt. Agung this month during a volcano trek in Bali, too bad for you.
All recreational hiking activities on the volcano have been suspended as of March 28 for a Balinese ceremony.
Ida Bhatara Turun Kabeh, the grand ceremony, will be performed until April 24 and climbing will open back up again on April 28, Chairman of the association for climbing Mt. Agung, I Komang Kayun, told Tribun Bali on Monday.
The ceremony will go around Besakih Village in the Rendang district.
“It’s the rules of the traditional village of Bekasih,” adding Kayun, saying that climbing Mt. Agung during this period is only allowed for those who want to worship or give offerings.
