Because of high waves and strong winds, a ship from Surabaya destined for Ende, Flores had to make an emergency stop in the port of Celukan Bawang, Bali.
The Rafelia II was carrying 500 passengers along with dozens of two and four-wheeled vehicles, reports VIVA News.
Local fishermen reportedly helped the ship’s passengers evacuate to Bali, while some people used lifeboats from the ship to paddle to shore.
Fortunately all the passengers reportedly survived, though all the vehicles were not so lucky.
Buleleng police chief Kurniadi confirmed the news to reporters on Monday: “All the passengers have successfully been evacuated. But the vehicles could not all be, because the ship could not be docked.”
